Next April, the WORST anti-transgender ballot measure in the country will be up for a vote right here in Anchorage. That puts our city front-and center in the national fight to advance transgender non-discrimination protections.
That’s why next Tuesday, August 29th, Mara Keisling—one of the nation’s most renowned transgender civil rights activists and the executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality—will be in Anchorage for an important conversation on the state of transgender rights in Alaska
Mara has fought countless similar battles to what we face in Anchorage. If there’s anyone who knows what it will take to defeat Prop 1, it’s her.
Since she founded the organization in 2003, Mara has led NCTE’s work building coalitions that have racked up significant victories for transgender people, including the inclusion of gender identity in the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the first-ever Congressional hearing on transgender issues, and countless other changes at the federal and state level.
Mara will share this wisdom for winning with us. But she’ll also have a lot share with our larger Anchorage community about the harm—both to our city’s reputation, and to our transgender neighbors and friends—that will result if Prop 1 repeals our transgender non-discrimination protections.
You will not want to miss out as one of the country’s most prominent transgender advocates joins us for the No on Prop 1 fight in Anchorage. RSVP to let us know you can make it to our free panel on Tuesday, August 29th at 7 PM.
Also—there WILL be free parking!
